Beneteausailing yachts
Beneteau is a French yard from the Vendée region that builds sailing yachts and motor boats in series production.
About the brand
The yard was founded in 1884 by Benjamin Bénéteau in Croix-de-Vie on the Atlantic coast, originally building fishing boats. In the mid-1960s, under his grandchildren, it switched to fibreglass and to leisure boats. Today it is the core of Groupe Beneteau, which also includes the Jeanneau, Lagoon, Excess, Prestige, Wellcraft and Delphia brands. The sailing yachts split into the Oceanis and Oceanis Yacht cruising lines and the sportier First and First SE lines. Alongside them the brand also builds motor boats, from the small Flyer runabouts to the Swift Trawler and Grand Trawler trawlers.
In charter
The Oceanis lines form the backbone of Mediterranean charter fleets, so the choice of sizes is wide and crews know the boats. The broad stern and high freeboard give plenty of room in the cockpit and below, but they also make the boat more sensitive to crosswinds when manoeuvring in a marina. Interiors age quickly under heavy charter use, so the year of build matters when choosing.
