Jeanneau is a French yard from the Vendée region that builds sailing yachts and motor boats in series.
About the brand
The yard was founded by Henri Jeanneau in 1957 in Les Herbiers, starting out with wooden motor boats. It moved to fibreglass over a few years and brought out its first sailing yachts in 1964. Since 1995 the brand has belonged to Groupe Beneteau while keeping its own model lines: Sun Odyssey for cruising, Jeanneau Yachts for larger boats and Sun Fast for racing. Alongside the sailing yachts it also builds motor boats, today in the Leader, NC, TH, EX, DB Yachts and Sea Loft lines.
In charter
Jeanneau is a common charter choice, and the Sun Odyssey line makes up a large part of Mediterranean fleets, so a crew usually knows what layout and handling to expect on board. The boats are built more for interior volume and comfort than for hard windward work, so they point less willingly than sportier hulls. Boats that have done several charter seasons tend to have worn fittings, so the year of build tells you more than the model name alone.
