Excess is a French brand of sailing catamarans, launched in 2018 by Groupe Beneteau.
About the brand
Groupe Beneteau unveiled the brand at the Cannes boat show in September 2018, and the first two models, the Excess 12 and Excess 15, hit the water in 2019. The boats are built in France, at the group's plant in Le Poiré-sur-Vie in the Vendée, with hulls drawn by the naval architects VPLP Design. Excess makes sailing catamarans only, from roughly 11 to 16 metres, and within the group it sits alongside Lagoon, with the emphasis on sailing performance rather than maximum volume.
In charter
Excess does appear in Adriatic charter fleets, most often in the smaller sizes. At the same length it offers less interior volume than catamarans built purely for space, the helm stations are more exposed to wind and rain, and the twin hull costs extra in the marina too, where it takes two berths.
