Aquilacatamarans
Aquila builds power catamarans; the brand was created in 2012 as a joint venture between the Chinese yard Sino Eagle Group and the American company MarineMax.
About the brand
The brand was created in 2012, when the Sino Eagle Group yard began building catamarans in Hangzhou for the MarineMax charter division. Its first model was the Aquila 38, followed by the larger Aquila 48, which was designed specifically for the brand. Today the range runs from roughly 8.5 to 21 metres and splits into the Molokai, Sport, Coupe, Yacht and Luxury lines. From 2026 a sailing line joins them. The Slovenian studio J&J Design contributes to the design work.
In charter
Aquila is used in charter where a crew wants the space of a catamaran without the sailing. Hops between islands are faster and do not depend on the wind. The price is paid in fuel consumption and higher mooring costs, since a power catamaran takes two berths in a marina. The tall superstructure is sensitive to crosswinds when manoeuvring.
